I began Tai Chi Sunrise Retreats with the intent of exploring ancient civilizations while studying the ancient Taoist Arts of Tai Chi Chuan and Chi Kung Meditation. From the beginning, it’s been important to me that my retreats offer time to explore the land we’re visiting and to bring a “wandering Taoist” attitude to our conscious life. By changing the stage upon which our life is played out, psychological behaviors that disconnect us from our true self are more readily revealed and dispelled, allowing our internal essence to emerge. Whatever you sincerely believe, you give energy to… essentially giving life to your thoughts. If you believe life is difficult, you tend to see difficulties, obstacles and barriers, and distrust that which comes to you without effort. If you believe life is difficult you may struggle and complain and never feel content with who you are and what you possess. The Taoist lifestyle is about living life. It’s about embracing strength and vitality and at the same time, manifesting softness and flexibility. My retreats offer a unique opportunity to study the physical embodiment of the Taoist lifestyle through Tai Chi Chuan and Chi Kung Meditation. Through these practices you will be able to confront your physical and psychological boundaries, heal your anxiety and stress, and intrinsically embrace the cultures and lands of the world. I look forward to the time you will join me on a Tai Chi Sunrise Retreat. Shima Susan Elkins Retreat: Australia 2007
