| Qigong |
The art of Qigong was preceded by shamanistic practices originating in Siberia. As the Siberian practices migrated, they emerged as Qigong (a post-revolutionary term) in China and as Yogic practices in India. Sometimes called Taoist Yoga, Qi (energy) + gong (work) was developed by Taoist monks to counteract the loss of body strength after hours of seated meditation. However, the practice proved to be of even greater benefit by developing a conscious state of awareness. Composed of simple postures, slow movements, and visualizations, Qigong diminishes debilitating effects of disease, prevents disease states from manifesting, and improves overall quality of life.
Qigong Meditation (Heal and Strengthen the Body)Qigong Meditation takes movement and visualization into a meditative state. This ancient exercise is noted for its rapid physical healing, but it is also excellent for those who want to attain high levels of physical ability. By simply synchronizing the breath with slow, graceful movements, you not only build strength and stamina, you also reduce stress, harmonize emotional woes, and relieve anxiety. There's no prerequisite and no form to learn, just come and follow! (This form adapts well to a chair for those recovering from an injury or who find it difficult to stand more than a few minutes.)
